Lakshya Sen misses bronze in men’s singles badminton Olympics 2024. With this India’s Olympic medal tally remains 3 medals all bronze. World no. 7 Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia won 13-21 21-16 21-11 . Earlier Lakshya became the first Indian to reach men’s singles badminton semi-final. The Malaysian lost his semi final bout against current world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand while Lakshya went down fighting against defending champion and world No. 2 Victor Axelsen of Denmark. Having lost their semis against current world champion & world no. 2 this bronze medal fight was set up for an epic fight.

Lakshya & Lee Zii Jia had previously met 5 times with Lakshya winning four of them. The last time they met at All England Championships earlier in 2024 Lakshya beat him coming back from a game behind.

In Olympics 2024, Lakshya had topped his Group stage with 2 wins including win over world No.4 Jonatan Christie of Indonesia. In the round of 16 he had a comfortable win over fellow Indian H.S.Pranoy. Arguably his biggest win came over in the quarter final against Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei, where he came from a game down to win 19-21, 21-15, 21-12.

Two days back Manu Bhaker lost her shoot out missing out becoming the first Indian to win 3 medals in a single Olympic. After winning the first game Malaysian Lee put up a strong fight to come back and win the bronze – second medal for Malaysia. India also had a fourth place finish in Skeet Mixed team in a match whose timing overlapped with this one.
