We got activa on rent for that day Rs 180 per bike & fuelled it with Rs 120 Petrol . Now we were Freebirds to roam around. Without much planning and half a day already gone we set off to Achalgarh and then to GuruShikhar to experience the sunset from the highest point in Mt. Abu. That night we roamed around Nakki Lake main market to spend some more cash on food, mementos , more food , rabdi. And ended the trip next day by a visit to Flaggy Christ the Redeemer statue
If you missed the first 9 days read about it here Day 1 to 6 , Day 7 to 8 & Day 9
Bro TIP:
Everything around Mt. Abu is around 10-15 km. So taking a bike on rent is the best option.
Achalgarh
We took the bike to Achalgarh . Reached there within 15-minutes. There is a famous Achaleshwar temple at the bottom . But in no mood for more temples and hence decided to skip it for the fort.
The fort built in 1452 by Maharana Kumbha, the ruler of Mewar Kingdom named it Achalgarh or the immovable, now remains only in ruins. We went there with great excitement but returned with almost nothing but selfies .
We skipped going in another temple and continued towards the top. After a while reached this entrance which is in pretty good condition. ON hindsight this is the only thing which is in good condition at Achalgarh fort. There are some 50-100 steps reach the top.
At the top of the fort there are no remains of the fort apart from the couple of temples . The view from top was good. It would be better at sunset i guess. But we didnt have enough time to wait that long so after a couple of photos we moved towards Gurushikhar.
GuruShikhar
Gurushikhar is the highest point of the Aravali Ranges at 1722m .The road to Gurukshikhar is a winding road and just a pleasure to drive on it. THere are many beautiful spots from where you can get an awesome view of the Aravali Ranges.
Again as has been the case of every tourist spot in Mt. Abu there are many stalls selling local art work, mementos, guns …
There is a Guru Dattatrey Mandir at the top of the hill. And i must say it does paint a pretty picture in the dying lights of the pastel sky.
I tried to capture the beautiful sunset in the best possible way. We tried few poses . This was the best outcome
Since it was getting late we decided to head back since we had no jackets and head to brave the colds of Mt Abu winter on our Activas. Shivering all the way we made it back to main market. Handing over the Activa we headed to NAkki Lake
Nakki Lake
We have been here at Nakki Lake every morning for the last 10 days and it was only on the last day that we got visit Nakki lake at night. The place does come alive with thousands of people roaming around the market and couples roaming around the romantic colours of the lake
Besides the Nakki lake you can see the frog like toad rock ( Close up pic at the end of the blog ). There are many brightly lit shops full of choatic people. Buying ,bargaining ,eating…But on a cold night this warmth is welcome.
Having done Achalgarh, GuruShikhar & Nakki Lake today out body was tired . So after a quick dinner and hot Kesar milk we headed back to SVIM -our home for last 10 days- for the last night in Mt. Abu.
Mt Abu Christ – The Redeemer
The statue of is at the top of the hill behind SVIM. We were lucky to have come across it during the course. It is also known as Christ – The Redeemer : Flaggy.
How to reach Christ the Redeemer Statue at Mt. Abu
From the main market area the route is similar to Gaumukh trek till SVIM. (SVIM is around 1 km from Nakki lake). From SVIM there is a small 10 minutes climb to the top of the hill from the behind the institutes compound( to the left side of the institute).
Once here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the status embracing the skies of Mt Abu. On the last day I visited Redeemer statue in the morning and spend a good two hours trying to get a good shot.
After this I wanted to go to Toad Rock for Rappelling but I was not able to convince any instructor to come along. Due to lack of equipment we had to scrap the Toad Rock plan. This is an image taken by my friend Akshay on his rappelling at Toad rock.
With no more drive in us we decided to end the Mt. Abu Trip and head back of home. With no train bookings it was going to be a long trip ahead. We packed our bags and said good bye to the institute ( No one was remaining to wave us goodbye) and walked to Abu market for one last time. Took a bus to Ahmedabad & then a general bogie to Mumbai.
